Grandville Robotics Community Involvement

During the Robodawgs 10 year existence we have participated in many community projects ranging from Environmental Awareness to helping the local Charities. We are a group dedicated to not only the pursuit of knowledge during the FRC season, but the tangible involvement in a plethora of community events. One of the projects that the Robodawgs have the greatest commitment to is the local FLL teams in the Grandville Public Schools district. Members of our team are often involved in the LEGO League through mentoring and volunteering at the annual Grandville LEGO league competition. Students participate at the competiton as judges, runners, timekeepers, annoucers and an assortment of other positions. At every comptetition, the Robodawgs provide nearly 60% of the volunteers required to keep the tournament functional. As well as making sure the competition runs, the students play a vital role in conveying the ideals of FIRST such as Gracious Professionalism.

Blood Drive

The Robodawgs are not limited to FIRST related events in their volunteering, we strive to participate in as many local events as we can. Charities that we have participated in inculde but are not limited to: Toys For Tots, Second Harvest Gleaners, Santa Claus Girls, Mel Trotter, Church Functions, United Way, Breast Cancer Walk and March of Dimes. Being consistantly invovled in some sort of charity helps the Robodawgs to continue building close ties between each other and to the community. Another oppurtunity that the Robodawgs have been presented was the ability to participate in teh Grandville 4th of July parade. The parade was an enjoyable way to promote the Robodawgs and the FIRST organization.

Toys FOr Tots
To spread knowledge of the Robodawgs to the general school populace, the team hosted several VEX nights in which team members, family members, and interested individuals attended and helped to build and drive VEX robots to achieve small games which were created by Senior team members. These nights helped to teach team members teamwork and brainstorming to be better prepared for the FRC kickoff weekend. This also gave Tyler and Tanner time and reason for random death threats to many members of team (especially each other). Each night allowed family members to visit and try to get an understanding of what we strive to teach anyone that participates in the Robodawgs season; the vital values that FIRST is designed to promote and produce.
